Yemeni people, unfathomable pain and double suffering

Over the last 6 years Yemen has been one of the hottest conflict zones in the world causing thousands of fatalities. The region has also suffered from extreme flooding, and scarcity of drinkable water which have further contributed to pushing the region in to deep poverty & instability. Many villages in Yemen are extremely remote & not as developed as other parts of the country, as a result thousands of families are forced to live in extreme poverty & do not have the resources necessary to provide food & water for their families.

Last 2 weeks a devastating flood hits the city of Aden in Yemen and caused numerous deaths adding to the struggle of those suffering

The floods surrounded thousands of families and caused huge damage to the residences, especially those that were built randomly near the flood ducts. Water rushed through the streets for more than two hours, sweeping along hundreds of cars and burying them along the main roads in the Aden districts of Al Kalowaa, Crater and Al Mualla. Power and water networks, which were already in a poor state, were completely cut out. The flooding damaged everything in our neighborhood. The tarmac layer in the street was swept away and the water pipes were turned into a rubble.

The Yemeni Prime Minister, Maeen Saeed, declared Aden “a disaster city”.

Currently, the most hardest hit location are in the most undeserved communities. Over 2,000 families with poorly structured housing have been impacted, leaving them with damaged shelter or no shelter at all. Over 3000 IDP internally displaced family tents have also been damaged.  The small roads of crowded neighborhoods left road closures, impacting access to homes and main roads.

Some of the homes were completely wiped out, killing families in an instant. Those who lost their homes are now in the streets or in temporary shelters with newborns and IDP camps.

Bassmah relief foundation has been productively working on the ground since the beginning of the disaster but with your support Bassmah team can help more victims
