Heavy flooding from seasonal rains kills 13 in a historical city in Yemen

With a total area of 28,940 square kilometers the Tarim District is located in the eastern part of the Hadramawt governorate, and it is the closest point in the center of the Hadramout Valley, as it is bordered on the north by the Qaf al-Awamer district, on the south by Mirita Sah and Gil bin Yammine, on the west by the Seon district, and on the east by the Al-Soum district.  The majority of its residents live in mud-brick houses and work in manufacturing and agriculture.

The city of Tarim and its environs, like other cities and districts of Wadi Hadramout, has been witnessing for nearly a week, rain, varying between heavy and medium, followed by the valleys and reefs with large, medium and small torrents. On the evening of Sunday, May 2, 2021, torrential rain fell on the city of Tarim and its suburbs since 5:30 pm and continued until about 6:30 pm. Large torrents flowed from six o'clock at the time of breakfast. There were large torrents from the various branches of the city of Tarim and its suburbs, and there were some damages, including:

Aideed area:

• 166 demolished houses, between total and partial demolitions.
• Many homes are threatened with collapse.
• The displacement of residents of these homes for their relatives and others to the shelter. Center at Aideed School for Boys until safe homes are provided for them.
• One drowned person dies.
• The death of a family consisting of a father, mother and daughter under the rubble of their destroyed house at the edge of Sabika.
• The death of a man under the rubble of his home, bringing the total deaths to five deaths.
• One wounded person.
• Water has entered some homes, and there is no material or human damage.
• Floods washed away some cars from underneath homes.
• The ground floor of Aideed Charitable Clinic was flooded with water.

Al-Khalif Region:

• Some cars were washed underneath the houses.

Damon area:

• One new house, which had no residents, was demolished.
• The demolition of part of a new house under construction.
• The death of many sheep on the farms.

After the heavy rains and torrential torrents that took place in the city of Tarim and its environs on Sunday night, corresponding to May 2, 2021

The outcome of the initial damage was as follows

• Four deaths under the rubble and one drowning person, bringing the total to five deaths.
• No missing.
• The demolition of 168 houses, between complete and partial demolitions.
• Many homes are threatened with collapse, and work is still underway to limit them to a specific number.
• The displacement of 82 families
• Many cars and motorbikes were destroyed as a result of being
