Academic Braille Material Assistance for Secondary Blind Student

479.02 RM Collected Of 100000.00 Goal

The Braille Reading Material Assistance Program is designed to ease the burden of blind and visually impaired children or children with parents with the same condition and help them continue their school education in 2022. It’s important to note that braille-oriented reading materials are scarce and not easily available for sale in the market as it requires specific equipment and expertise to produce and read them. Further, the cost of producing braille reading materials is high and the process to publish these materials are time-consuming. The Malaysian Foundation for The Blind (Yayasan Orang Buta Malaysia) in collaboration with Ensany Humanitarian is seeking a fund to enable us to publish the more academic braille reading materials that will be given to 1000 students at no cost.

Target Group: The programmer targets 1000 blind and visually impaired students from around the country that are registered with the Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat dan Bahagian Pendidikan Khas.

Who is Yayasan Orang Buta Malaysia?

As a national non-profit foundation, the Malaysian Foundation for the Blind (MFB) is here to make life better for blind and partially sighted people in Malaysia. We champion access and equality and seek to share the benefits of new technologies. Whether you’re losing your sight, or you’re blind or partially sighted, we can help you face the future with confidence.

Our Vision: A strong community where blind and partially sighted people have equal access and opportunities.

Our Mission:

- To support blind and partially sighted people by providing and equipping them with relevant technological aids.

- To develop and promote inclusive human capital among the blind and partially sighted community via skills and vocational training programs.

- To enhance the quality of life for blind and partially sighted people by creating equal access opportunities and greater participation in an inclusive-right-based society.

- To advocate take-up of the OKU 2008 act, a convention of the rights for the person with disabilities, and any other relevant laws and policies.

What do we do?

- We connect families to knowledge and support.

- We guide the usage of assistive technology tools.

- We design and offer courses to educate professionals in the field.

- We provide skills and vocational training programs for blind and partially sighted people.

- We help create awareness of the rights of disabled people, such as provided in the act of OKU 2008.

- The braille books that will produce is for all Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) subject.

Benefits from the project:

- The project would benefit the primary and secondary students particularly form 4 and 5 students to prepare them for Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination.

- To supplement the textbooks provided by the Ministry of Education and to enrich reading materials in Braille format which is very limited and most of the time is not sufficient.

- To provide equal accessible books to people with visual impairments.

Target Collection:

In collaboration with Ensany Humanitarian, Yayasan Orang Buta Malaysia target to fund 1000 blind students with amount of RM 90,000. We hope that this project will succeed and can benefit the student who has blind and partially sighted to get knowledge equal with normal children. Since the price of braille books is quite expensive for each subject, they can't afford to buy by themselves. Your help can ease the burden of the family to provide the books for their disabled child.  Join us to sponsor them.
