The consequences of not purifying your wealth and using this impure income are discussed in a hadith narrated by Abu Hurayrah, in which the Prophet Muhammad (saws) gives the example of "a person who has travelled far, becoming dishevelled and dusty, and he raises his hands to the sky, saying, "O Lord! O Lord!" while his food, drink, clothing, and nutrition are all unlawful, so how can [his supplication] be answered?" (Muslim Sahih)
