The Kingdom of Morocco experienced a catastrophic and terrifying night as a 7.0 magnitude earthquake, according to the Richter scale, struck on Saturday night. The epicenter of the earthquake was in "Ighil" in the region of Al-Houz, near Marrakech.
It began around 11:00 PM local time in Morocco on Saturday night. The National Institute of Geophysics in Morocco reported that a 7.0 magnitude earthquake was recorded in the Al-Houz region, in the central part of the country, approximately 71 kilometers southwest of Marrakech, at a depth of 18.5 kilometers.
The Moroccan Ministry of Interior has reported that the number of casualties from this devastating earthquake has risen to 2,012 fatalities, along with 2,059 injured. Moroccan rescue teams continue their efforts to search for survivors trapped under the rubble.
Reports indicate that there are still families trapped beneath the debris of their homes. Hospitals in the city of Marrakech have seen an influx of injured individuals from various areas, and authorities have called on citizens to donate blood.
Residents have decided to stay outside their homes in anticipation of potential further strong earthquakes.
