Background

A long-running political crisis in Yemen takes a turn for the worse and escalates to violence and war. Yemen is already one of the poorest countries in the Middle East even during peaceful times. Many lost their home, their job, and their family. We took the initiative to help provide them with food and water. United Nations has classified Yemen as a Level 3 crisis similar to the country Syria which is the most severe and large-scale humanitarian crisis. United Nations also says that 21 million or 85% of its population is in need of humanitarian aid, meaning, 4 out of 5 Yemenis require some form of assistance and aid!

Why ZABID city?

Zabid is one of the poorest districts under Hodeidah Governorate, Tihamah region located in Southern-West Yemen. Hodeidah is the fourth-largest city in Yemen with 2.6 million people, while the population of Zabid is approximately 55, 000 people (according to the 2004 census). Also, Hodeidah has a large number of historical places; particularly in Zabid, which is regarded as one of the most important Islamic towns in the world.  Zabid town is well-known for its historical and heritage buildings including mosques. The city is not large but it has more than 85 old mosques.

Apart from the natural disasters that recklessly vanished people and their belongings, we also provide aid for those affected by war. As of 2016, we’ve included Yemen in our Food Aid program as the country is facing a crisis and many of its citizens are being displaced from their homes. Thus, the main reason why we have set up a long-term project called ILTIZAM BAKERY YEMEN is to cater to the urgent needs of 55,000 people in Zabid ever since.

The Iltizam Bakery Yemen is currently 100% using manpower (volunteers), working in two shifts (day and night rotation basis), running only 3 days per week, producing 7500- 8000 pcs of bread rolls and distributing to 2500-3000 needy families in Zabid. We are hoping for more funds to come in to cater to daily production and to produce more bread to benefit more people in need…

Since 2017, Iltizam's bakery in Zabid feeds up to 800 families for free. With no job opportunities, they are dependent on outside help for food. Help us continue this project to keep them from hunger.
