1. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
Access to clean water is still a big problem in the rural areas of Uganda. Children, pregnant mothers and the elderly have to walk miles in search for clean water of which in most circumstances is not clean enough. This leaves the community at risk of sanitation related diseases caused by lack of clean water.
2. JUSTIFICATION:
The justification of this proposal is that over 6000 people do not have access to safe drinking water. The proposed boreholes will not only provide safe dririking water to 6000 persons but they will also increase per person water consumption from 6 -7 litres a day to more than 15 litres a day. The communities will also be trained on maintaining their water system facility.
3) PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The project aims at providing three electric boreholes to the three orphanage community centers of Rasul Akram orphanages.
The boreholes are electric boreholes that shall supply clean and safe water to the three orphanage centers and the community at large of Wakiso, Kayunga and Butambala
Target Group:
The main target group is the most underprivileged children and youths orphaned /affected by HIV/AIDS of both the urban slum dwellers and rural village homes in the area where we operate. Initially a total of 6000 children, elderly, and pregnant mothers shall directly/ indirectly benefit from the program with gender sensitivity.
4) IMPACT OF PROJECT ON THE COMMUNITY
Three community water committees in the cJistricts of Butambala, Wakiso and Kayunga set up to manage the project
4 Three electric boreholes drilled and hand pumps installed properly to support provision of clean water.
4 People living in the 3 communities gain knowledge about sanitation issues, such as the importance of washing hands, using latrines etc.
4 Reduction in sanitation and hygiene related diseases caused by lack of clean water
