IFTAR FOOD PARCEL DISTRIBUTION PROJECT

Muslims worldwide fast from dawn to sunset, abstaining totally from food, drink, sexual pleasure, smoking and other sensual pleasures to complete one of the five pillars of Islam and to achieve greater self-discipline, self-purification, and compassion for those less fortunate.

This fast is absolutely observed in Uganda by the Muslim communities, however, some families do not have the means and provisions to afford Iftar meals thence this makes their Ramadan season very challenging. This lack and insufficiency has brought forth a lot of frustration among our Muslim brothers and sisters and deprived them the right of enjoying the dear faith of Islam

In the Yasiva Charity Organisation Iftar Food Parcel Distribution Project, we shall reach out with food to our needy brothers and sisters across the country, specifically these two districts of Budaka District in Eastern Uganda and Mbarara district in Western Uganda who face food shortage and hunger due to irreversible natural circumstances like drought and pestilences.

THE IFTAR FOOD PARCEL DISTRIBUTION PROJECT

The Ramadan food distribution project is primarily intended to provide food to needy fasting families during Ramadan and to help most deserving families during the blessed month of Ramadan, fostering Islamic brotherhood.

Each food parcel shall contain a sufficient amount of food comfortably enough for an average family of six for the 4 weeks (30 days) and consisting of basic foods suitable for the target community basically rice, maize flour, cooking oil and sugar. This project is intended to be implemented in full and none of its allocated goods shall be carried forward, but food parcels are to be distributed during the 30 days of the month of Ramadan

STATEMENT OF NEED

We intend to raise a provision of 100 Iftar Food Parcels each including 50 Kg of rice, 50 Kg of maize flour, 50 Kg of sugar and 5 Liters of cooking oil.

These quantities are well calculated to feed a household of averagely 5 – 8 people for the full month of Ramadan (30 days) giving preference to orphaned children, widow headed families, disabled persons, and poverty stricken families.

Therefore this provision can cover averagely 5000 – 8,000 individuals in the 100 households in which these parcels are distributed and this interprets into a great reduction on our problem focus.
