The Morocco earthquake has claimed 820 lives so far, with dozens of casualties in the most violent earthquake to hit Morocco in a century, prompting appeals for aid to the affected.
Morocco urgently needs your help today: Donate to save many lives:
The Moroccan Ministry of Interior announced on Saturday an increase in the death toll from the earthquake that struck the country on Friday evening to 820 dead and 672 injured. It noted that 205 people are in critical condition as of 10 AM local time, according to Morocco's government-owned channel, Al Oula.
The deadly earthquake, measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale, which hit Morocco on Friday night, is the worst the country has experienced in years.
Today's earthquake caused the collapse of several buildings, some of which were inhabited, and the search is still ongoing for survivors under the rubble. Rescue teams have been deployed to search for survivors, and it is expected to take some time to fully assess the extent of the damage.
A CNN reporter in Marrakech mentioned that many of the injured were seen standing outside a hospital building in the city, some of them with apparently serious injuries. Hospital beds were moved outside the building, with a significant police presence in the adjacent area.
