Our noble Islamic faith emphasizes the importance of helping the needy and the poor, clearly stating this in the Holy Quran and the Prophetic tradition. There is a wealth of evidence supporting this.
In Surah Al-Baqara, Allah, the Most High, says:"
And establish prayer and give zakah, and whatever good you put forward for yourselves - you will find it with Allah. Indeed, Allah of what you do, is Seeing".
This is a call to all Muslims to fulfill the obligatory charity (Zakat) from their wealth, which is a right for the poor. And any good that you give for yourselves, you will find its reward with Allah, abundant and reserved for your Hereafter. Indeed, Allah is well-acquainted with all your actions, and He will reward you for them.
In the prophetic tradition, there are numerous hadiths that encourage us to help others. One of them is the saying of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him: "Whoever removes a worldly grief from a believer, Allah will remove from him one of the griefs of the Day of Resurrection. And whoever alleviates the need of a needy person, Allah will alleviate his needs in this world and the Hereafter. Whoever shields [or hides the misdeeds of] a Muslim, Allah will shield him in this world and the Hereafter. And Allah will aid His slave so long as he aids his brother."
This hadith emphasizes various actions in our religion, such as assisting those in distress, delaying the repayment of a debt for a poor debtor until Allah provides, and covering the mistakes of others. It underscores that the reward for these actions will be mirrored in this life and the Hereafter.
